PHP Is The Fix for the "Broken Web" !
'The Web is broken and it's all your fault' said Rasmus Lerdorf during the php|works 2006. He said the current state of the Internet includes a litany of broken items, but with a little help from PHP there may well be some hope for the Web yet.
Rasmus's speech made many reactions all over the web especially comparing MySQL and PostgreSQL for database performance. I totally agree that the database issue is the key of performance for high trafic websites. For the items that MySQL doesn't handle as well as PostgreSQL, Lerdorf noted that some features can be emulated in PHP itself, and you still end up with a net performance boost.
Rasmus presented PHP as a "Fix" for the broken web, even that I'm not very happy with the status of PHP5, it's already a step for the future especially with its more advanced OOP architecture, APC, SimpleXML and SOAP. We're still waiting for more in PHP6 with unicode support and opcode cache built-in by default.
