PDF as an ISO

Today January 29, 2007, Adobe announced its intent to release the full Portable Document Format (PDF) 1.7 specification to AIIM, the Enterprise Content Management Association, for the purpose of publication by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Very important initiative from Adobe to bring PDF to the next level of standardization, now with the release of PDF reference sixth edition, version 1.7, opened up for developers, we'll see certainly see more important development around the PDF format, more applications, and more standards.

PDF was first introduced by Adobe in 1993, and the efforts to make it a standard isn't really new and started from 1995 with the participation in many ISO working groups.
